Urban Cottage Renovation and Addition
Our client loves the convenience and walkability of their 900-square-foot cottage within walking distance of downtown Raleigh, but it badly needed updating, inside and out. They also wanted more space to spread out. Deciding to keep the simple look and feel of the brick exterior, they opted to limewash the red brick color, re-surfaced the front porch with beautiful slate tile, and constructed a new walkway, retaining wall, and fence. They also wanted a simple, yet contemporary addition to double the home’s size.
The design calls for a two-story addition that honors the home’s simplicity. The addition will first be built as a free-standing addition on the east side of the house. Once it is completed, a connector piece will join the two structures. A new, large kitchen with eating space, dining room, living room, powder room, and additional storage space will occupy the first floor. A spacious primary suite and artist’s studio on the second floor will complete the transformation.
